Prepare for an accurate test

Small changes to your environment can dramatically change the outcome of a speed test. Use the checklist below to capture the connection you really have, not just the one momentarily available.

Stabilize your network

  • Pause large downloads, cloud backups, and video streams on other devices before starting.
  • Prefer a wired Ethernet connection when available; otherwise sit near your Wi‑Fi access point and limit interference.
  • Close unused browser tabs and background apps that may throttle CPU or radio resources on phones.

Pick the right test mode

  • Global: Auto-selects the closest SpeedTribe mirror from our worldwide pool for a neutral benchmark.
  • R2 payload: Both quick and full tests now exercise the same 2 GB Cloudflare R2 object, so you can repeat runs knowing the route stays consistent.
  • Repeat the test at different times of day to observe peak-hour slowdowns that impact streaming quality or advertising campaigns.

Document the context

  • Note your ISP plan, modem/router model, and device so you can compare with contractual promises.
  • Export results with the built-in tool to create a timestamped PDF when sharing data with your provider or regulators.
  • Enable the history panel to track trends after firmware updates or home network changes.

Accessibility & safety

  • Use the theme toggle for high-contrast mode and keyboard-friendly controls for screen-reader compatibility.
  • We avoid intrusive pop-ups and autoplay audio so the experience remains compliant with AdSense policies.
  • If you are on a metered plan, watch the download duration selector to manage how much data the test consumes.
