How to read your results

Every metric on the dashboard corresponds to a quality-of-experience indicator that advertisers, streamers, and remote teams care about. Understanding what the numbers mean makes it easier to take action.

Download speed

Measured in megabits per second, this reflects how quickly you can receive content. Compare the sustained average to your plan speed; values below 80% during off-peak hours may signal congestion or throttling.

Upload speed

Upload determines how fast you can send video, backups, or live data. Many providers offer asymmetric service, so flag anything under 10 Mbps if you host video calls or cloud sync jobs.

Latency

The ping graph shows round-trip time in milliseconds. Sub-30 ms latency is ideal for competitive gaming, while streaming and general browsing remain comfortable up to roughly 80 ms.

Jitter & loss

Volatility in packet timing causes stutters. Keep jitter below 15 ms and packet loss under 1% to ensure smooth video conferencing and voice quality.

Bufferbloat

Our bloat metric records how much latency increases during heavy transfers. Scores under 40 ms indicate your router handles queues well; higher values suggest enabling Smart Queue Management or firmware updates.

History & exports

SpeedTribe stores recent runs locally so you can spot trends. The export button generates a PDF with metadata suitable for audits, troubleshooting, or advertising performance reports.

Remember that Wi‑Fi, device radios, and home wiring can cap performance below your ISP provision. Treat each result as part of a narrative rather than a single verdict.
